Our Core Belief
Memory is not linear.
Human memory works by association — triggered by an old photograph, a place, a face, a conversation or an object you'd forgotten you kept. Memoir Builder is a visual workspace built for that: it lets you capture a memory the moment it surfaces, wherever it happens to fit, and shape it into a finished narrative once the pieces are in place.
Everything you upload is stored encrypted, with a key that belongs to your account alone — your story stays yours.
The Idea
Built for the way memories actually surface
Traditional writing tools demand chronological order from the first page — which is exactly where most memoirs stall. Memoir Builder's visual chapter boards let you pin a piece of writing, a photo, or a document exactly where it belongs, in whatever order it comes to you, without forcing a decision about the finished order up front.
That non-linear approach protects your story while you're still assembling it — you can rearrange chapters and cards freely right up until you export a fully formatted manuscript, ready to print or share.
It's also where the name Aion comes from — our AI assistant, named for the Hellenistic and Greco-Roman deity who personifies unbounded, cyclical, and eternal time.
Built for the Details
Everything a chapter needs
Attach Anything
Upload a file, add a link to something already in Google Drive or iCloud, or point at a file on your own computer without copying it. Uploads count toward a free 300MB / 150 file allowance — links and remembered files don't.
Quick Capture, Dictate, or Upload
Tap the microphone icon in the top bar on any device you're logged into, phone included, and just start talking — it lands in your Stream of Consciousness chapter, ready to sort later. Dictate straight into any card with the built-in editor, or upload a recording (MP3, M4A, WAV, or OGG) and turn it into text. Flag anything unfinished by setting it to status=Pending and circle back anytime to find and complete it.
Keep Every Card in Order
Every photo, document, recording, or link on a card has its own menu — Rename, Move, Download, and Delete. Move an attachment up or down the card, or send it to another card in any chapter. Put your best photo first and it becomes the card's picture. On a phone, press and hold an attachment to open its menu.
Keep Audio
Switch on Keep Audio in the built-in editor and just talk — instead of converting your words to text, Memoir Builder records and saves the audio itself, attached to the card. No typing, no dictation review — and you can still get it in writing later, since transcription is just an upload away whenever you want it. Free on every plan; it counts as a normal file attachment, not against your transcription allowance.
Listen to Any Attachment
Open the menu on any attachment and hit Play — audio recordings and voice memos play right there with full controls (restart, pause, seek, 0.4×–2.0× speed) and a live voice visualizer. Text and RTF files are read aloud using your browser's speech technology, in a voice matched to your speaking language. Free on every plan.
Export an Audio Book
Turn your memoir into something you can listen to. Export clean, speakable text for a narrator or 3rd-party audio tool — free on every plan — or let Memoir Builder read it aloud for you as an MP3, in one of 11 natural voices, a Bronze feature.
